A. Énergies renouvelables
| 25 octobre 2007 | |

Daniel KAMMEN, Directeur, Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory, Université de Californie, Berkeley, États-Unis Résumé A growing number of state, regional, and national economies are assuming leadership positions for a clean, low carbon, energy economy. These ‘early actors' are reaping the economic benefits of their actions. Among the global leaders are Brazil, Denmark, Iceland Germany, Japan, Spain, all of which have made significant commitments to a green economy, and all are seeing job growth and rapidly expanding export opportunities. In the United States several states have embarked on significant climate protection efforts, and over half of U. S. states have taken the vital step of adopting minimum levels of renewable energy requirements. To make these efforts possible, dramatically accelerated clean energy research and development, and market deployment programs will be needed in not just a few, but in many nations and regions. At present, the basic science and engineering evolution of solar photovolatic, solar thermal, wind, biofuel, and storage technologies are all progressing well, despite low levels of financial support in some nations. What is vitally needed are roadmaps and milestones for these technologies and both public and private sector commitments to making low-carbon energy systems central to the economies of a growing number of states and regions. In this talk, I review the rate of scientific innovation, highlight the jobs benefits of this trend, and examine areas of critical scientific need for future efforts.
